External Collaborator

Dr. Michalis A. Vasiliades is a Senior Researcher in Heterogeneous Catalysis at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Cyprus. He maintains an active, internationally engaged research profile, collaborating with academic and industrial partners, and has expertise in catalytic processes and sustainable environmental technologies.

He obtained his PhD in Chemistry, specializing in Physical Chemistry and Heterogeneous Catalysis, from the University of Cyprus in 2017, receiving the First Prize Award as a PhD graduate of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences. He also holds an MSc (Eng) in Biological and Bioprocess Engineering from the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom) and a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Cyprus.

He possesses extensive industrial research experience through long-term collaboration with Sasol S.A. (South Africa) on mechanistic studies of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, as well as research collaborations in Slovenia and the United Kingdom focused on catalytic materials for hydrogen production and gaseous emissions control.

Since 2018, he has been employed full-time at the University of Cyprus as a Senior Researcher in the Heterogeneous Catalysis Laboratory. His work includes supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, designing and implementing advanced catalytic studies using transient and isotopic techniques, and making active contributions to competitive research proposals and high-impact scientific publications. In parallel, he is active in the Volatolomics Research Laboratory, where he leads the development of innovative biochar-based solutions to improve air quality and advance the circular economy.

Dr. Vasiliades has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals, with an h-index of 26 and over 1800 citations. He has received international distinctions, including the Best Poster Award at the European Congress on Catalysis (EuropaCat) in 2017 and 2019. He actively participates in national and European research projects and serves as a consultant for the preparation of competitive proposals under Horizon Europe and EIC programmes.

In addition to his research activities, he has been actively involved in higher education teaching at both the University of Cyprus and the Open University of Cyprus.

At RTD TALOS, he has served since January 2026 as Director of the Research and Technology Development Department, as an external collaborator, leading innovation strategy and applied research.
