"The development of the Religious Tourism in Cyprus"

The proposed work concerns in the development of objectives, which have as a basic goal the growth of religious tourism in Cyprus. This effort rises in the more general sustainable growth of tourism of special interests in Cyprus and aims in the creation of new tendencies, in the protection of environment and in the respect of holy places. The inquiring team, after the selection from the international bibliography, will determine the major monuments, historical places, adorations, holy abbeys of Cyprus as subjects of study as to the basic parameters, from diachronic to current. Special emphasis will be given in the qualitative factors, which determine the relation of religious tourism with basic aspects of modern life. The importance of the growth of the specific type of this tourism will be aimed to be shown, for the further aid of countryside, for the obtuseness of the problem of urbanism and decentralization. For this purpose, a special ecclesiastical map of Cyprus will be created that will guide the Cypriot but also the foreigner visitor as well in the successful tour in the holy ground of our island, but it will also provide him the possibility of coming in contact with genuine forms of popular art and inheritance, like the hagiography, Byzantine music and the architecture.
